The Shipment

May 2020

This was supposed to be a small project: I wanted to grab an old asset I worked on years ago, Little Mule, the main spaceship from the film The Shipment (2018), tweak the look a little and improve my klnowledge of Unreal Engine by creating a very small environment and trying to make a very short video. Then I got carried away… Unreal is such a powerful tool, but complex and vast, so while I was adding more and more features, the video became more and more complex and I had to face many different challenges and some times I came up with creative solutions due my poor knowledge of the tools. In the end, after months of sweat and tears, I managed to achieve what I wanted. Many things are rough, including the edit. There are no textures and no shaders, which I will work on next. But the structure and the mood are all there.

Clay renders of the Full Resolution Ship:

I’m currently in the process of up-resing the Ship and the Environment. I used instances for creating the Hangar and part of the Ship, and I’m going to keep the materials as procedural as possible. Once the short film will be complete, I’m planning to release this environment as a playable level in UE marketplace. Stay Tuned for more updates!
